Johnstown and Port Huron- Soo Report 2

Written By: Chelsea Zalewski

The battle for the North division is in full swing!  After a tough three game series with Johnstown the Eagles finished the weekend 1-1-1, winning Friday, losing in a shootout Saturday, and losing in regulation Sunday.  It was a very chippy series, full of pushing, shoving, and chirping all weekend but no actual fights.  Johnstown racked up 55 penalty minutes while the Eagles managed to spend 36 in the sin bin.  Eagles’ goal scorers were McDowell, Matson, Pung (2), Urso, Mueller, and Sabatini. Eagles’ goaltending looked pretty solid this weekend with Skoog making 61 saves out of 65 shots and Brennan made 37 saves out of 39 shots and looking.

This season each of the matchups between Johnstown and the Eagles will be three game weekends.  They will be a test of endurance, stamina and tolerance.  This series should be a good one as the season progresses.  Johnstown proved that they are not going to go down without a fight this season.  The Eagles will see Johnstown again in just a month at their barn.  I expect the series will continue to be gritty and chippy and fans can likely expect a fight or two.

Coming up this weekend the Soo Eagles will take on Port Huron for two games at the Pullar.  The Eagles swept Port Huron last year in the first round of playoffs, so undoubtedly, each team has something to prove.  Currently, Port Huron leads the North with a record of 6-1-1, playing one more game than the Eagles who have a record of 2-2-3.  Port Huron also beat out Johnstown twice this season already.  The Eagles will be looking to improve and hopefully move up in the standings.  This weekend’s match up should be another great series for Eagles fans to get out and attend.
