Tomahawks' 2013 Summer Tour Continues

The Johnstown Tomahawks' main camp for the upcoming season ended yesterday, but that doesn't mean the team is now just sitting around waiting for the season to start.

Today was the first day of the Johnstown Tomahawks' Hockey School at Planet Ice. The hockey school is running from July 29th (today) to August 2nd. Here's the team's press release about the hockey school from earlier this off season:

The Johnstown Tomahawks, in partnership with Planet Ice, today announced the First Annual Johnstown Tomahawks Summer Hockey School to be held July 29 – Aug. 2 at Planet Ice in Richland Township.
Directed by the team’s General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations, Rick Boyd, the five-day school will feature instruction by Tomahawks Head Coach Jason Spence and Assistant Coach Mike Letizia with Planet Ice Hockey Schools Director Francis Anzalone serving as both Program Developer and instructor.
“The Tomahawks place a high priority on helping the community and a large part of that is providing opportunities for youth hockey players in our area,” said Rick Boyd. “We are so excited for our first summer hockey school and look forward to providing young players with personalized coaching from some of the best hockey minds in our area and from our very own Tomahawks players.”
Attending players will receive 15 hours of on-ice instruction, daily dry land training, video breakdown reviews, individualized instruction, and thorough training from basic hockey skills to systems and team concepts. Tomahawks players Cody Boyd, Dakoda Menslage, Corey Schaffer, and others will assist Spence, Letizia, and Anzalone. Mike Grattan, scout for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders, will also join the staff as an instructor.

Not too sure if Corey Schaffer is still helping out as he was cut by the team during this past weekend's main camp. For the fan's of the Johnstown Chiefs, Francis Anzalone is former Chiefs' head coach Frank Anzalone's son. Frank Anzalone coached the Johnstown Chiefs for two seasons.

Here's a tweet sent out by Planet Ice earlier today:

That's Jesse Kessler helping out with the camp today.

The Tomahawks' aren't just holding their first annual hockey camp, on July 30th the team will be participating at the Camp Harmony Sports Camp.

On August 5th the team will be very busy as they will hold their 2nd Annual Johnstown Tomahawks Golf Outing. Later that night they will be part of the AAABA Opening Night festivities.

Here's the team's press release about the golf outing:

The Johnstown Tomahawks are thrilled to announce the Second Annual Tomahawks Charity Golf Outing to be held Monday, Aug. 5 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, PA. The event, presented by Esmark, Am-Guards, and Johnstown Construction & Flooring Solutions, will benefit the Johnstown Tomahawks Foundation (JTF).
“Our entire organization is looking forward to the golf outing with a lot of enthusiasm,” said Team President Rick Bouchard. “We hope to make this year’s event as memorable as our first one, which was an incredibly fun day of enjoying good food, golf, conversation, and, most importantly, raising money for the JTF. Having the ability to have fun and give back at the same time is something we look forward to all season long.”
The four-person shamble will feature the Tomahawks coaching staff and ownership group, as well as NFL legends Jack Ham and Shane Conlan, who were present last year. Prizes will be awarded to the top team and golfers can enjoy many on-course contests.

Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and drinks before the 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.  The live auction and dinner will be held around 6 p.m.  Auction items include Tomahawks jerseys autographed by Mario Lemieux & The Hanson Brothers, NHL, NFL & college memorabilia, golf equipment, and more.
