During this year's NAHL draft, the Tomahawks' had five total draft picks, and Casey Linkenheld was the team's first overall pick.
Linkenheld played last season for Team Illinois U18. In 31 games he scored 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists). In 2011-2012 he appeared in 29 games for Illinois U18, scoring 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists).
Linkenheld is a 5'11, 160lb left winger, who hails from Bartlett, IL.
So what does this mean for the Johnstown Tomahawks? Nothing, as of right now. Linkenheld will be in camp and should be one of the team's top players this upcoming season. If the Lincoln stars run into a few injuries or if Linkenheld really does well in Johnstown, he might get called up, almost like the ECHL to the AHL. Here's the official wording on USHL affiliate rosters:
The affiliate list is made up of players in the U-18 category. The list contains players that can be added anytime over the course of the season, either for full-time duty or as an injury replacement. These players can be drafted either during the entry draft or the futures draft. These players do not have to play in 10 games to be given veteran status and can be placed on a team's initial protected list.
The Johnstown Tomahawks' main camp will take place, July 25-28.
The team's first four games will be at the NAHL Showcase, Septemeber 18-22.
The season is getting closer and closer.
Let's go 'Hawks!
