The Port Huron Fighting Falcons played this weekend vs the Soo Eagles, and wouldn't you know, Port Huron won both games.
On Friday night they got the 4-2 victory (boxscore), and on Saturday night they won in a shootout, 4-3 (boxscore). With both wins, Port Huron is now only 2 points away from being tied with Johnstown for fourth place. Johntown has four games left (two at Kalamazoo, two at Jamestown), while Port Huron has five games left (three vs Janesville, and two vs Michigan).
Here's the current North Division Standings:
Why this is important? If Johnstown can clinch (they only need one more point or a Springfield loss) and win fourth place, they will have home ice advantage in the play in round. Sure Johnstown hasn't played great home or away vs Port Huron this season, but I'd rather take my chances at them at home, then having to play the first two away, and hope to bring it home for game three.
During this past week Port Huron's Rick DeRosa committed to play at Penn State University. You can read the article here.
Also during this past week Soo's outstanding netminder, Tyler Marble, committed to play college hockey at Colorado College. You can read the whole article here.
The end of Johnstown's first season is going to an exciting and interesting one for sure. Hopefully we can pick up a couple points so we can see a home play off game this season.
