Johnstown Beats Springfield 4-2 (3/1/13)

The Johnstown Tomahawks break a four game losing streak and Colin Brennan breaks his eleven game losing streak (two of those games he was pulled), as the Tomahawks win, 4-2.

Johnstown trailed very early in the game when, Brett Skibba, beat Brennan, with the assist coming from Davis Dekorte, at 1:16 of the first period. A few moments later, Cody Gylling made a beautiful pass to Jordan Watt, sending him on a breakaway, where he was able to beat the Jr. Blues goalie, high blocker side, to tie the game at one.

In the second period Johnstown would take the lead when Cody Boyd scored his third of the season with the assist going to Matt Williams. This is the first point for Williams in a Johnstown uniform. Then while on the power player Mitch Kontny was able to bury a goal past Leon, to give Johnstown the two goal lead. Ryan Atkinson was able to pull Springfield within one goal about midway through the second period, but it's as close as Springfield would get tonight.

While still up, 3-2, and back on the power play, this time for five minutes due to a major for kneeing, Johnstown was able to regain the two goal lead. On the boxscore they gave credit to Ian Spencer but the man who blasted the puck past the netminder was Jeff Bergh assisted by Mitch Hall. But if it says the way it is currently, it will be, Spencer's fourth of the season, assisted by Mitch Hall.

There was one fight in the game tonight which took place in the third period. After a nice hip check by Jake Fairchild, Micah Ranum, chased Fairchild into the corner to get revenge for his teammate. The two players dropped the gloves but didn't stay on their feet for very long. Fairchild was given two minutes for tripping, (for the original hit) and with five minutes for fighting. Ranum was given two minutes for instigating, five for fighting, and a game misconduct.

Springfield out shot Johnstown, 23-20.

Johnstown was 2 for 5 on the power play and Springfield was 0 for 5.

Colin Brennan picks up his first win since December 14, 2012 (a shutout vs Jamestown, 5-0). Brennan stopped 21 of 23 shots. For Springfield, Matt Leon gets the loss, stopping 16 of 20 shots.

Witht the win, Brennan's record now stands at 7-7-5 with a GAA of 2.70 and a save percentage of .907. With the loss, Leon's record now stands at 14-17-2 with a GAA of 3.07 and a save percentage of .906.

Final Thoughts:

Johnstown played a good road game and seemed to keep it simple. Both teams faceoff against each another again tomorrow night. If Johnstown can play the same way again, they should be able to get all four points this weekend.
